Codeine Classification:
Codeine is in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics.
Codeine is an opiate or opioid analgesic. Opiates are
morphine like drugs, codeine is converted into morphine
in the brain.

is used to treat moderate-to-severe pain. Codeine is
also a cough suppressant used for the releif of a non-productive

Before
using codeine medicine:

of codeine as soon as possible. If it is almost time
for your next codeine dose, skip the missed dose and

not take 2 doses of codeine at once.
Cautions:
DO NOT TAKE CODEINE MEDICINE IF YOU HAVE HAD A SEVERE
ALLERGIC REACTION to codeine, hydrocodone, dihydrocodeine,
or oxycodone (such as Tylox, Tylenol with Codeine, Vicodin).
A severe allergic reaction includes a severe rash, hives,
breathing difficulties, or dizziness. If you have a
question about whether you are allergic to this medicine
or if a certain medicine contains codeine, hydrocodone,
dihydrocodeine, or oxycodone, contact your doctor or
pharmacist. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED CODEINE DOSE
or take codeine medicine for longer than prescribed
without checking with your doctor. Exceeding the recommended
dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed
may be habit-forming. CODEINE MEDICINE MAY CAUSE drowsiness
or dizziness. Using this medicine alone, with other
medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to
drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions
about which medicines cause drowsiness. This medicine
contains acetaminophen. DO NOT TAKE ADDITIONAL ACETAMINOPHEN
for pain or fever without checking with your doctor
or pharmacist. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions
about which medicines contain acetaminophen. Acetaminophen
may cause liver damage. If you drink alcohol on a daily
basis, do not take this medicine without first discussing
it with your doctor. Alcohol use combined with acetaminophen
may increase your risk for liver damage. BEFORE YOU
BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or
over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss
with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this
medicine during pregnancy.
Possible codeine side effects:
SIDE EFFECTS that may go away during treatment include
dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness, constipation,
nausea, or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome,
check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON
AS POSSIBLE if you experience rash or itching. If you
notice other effects not listed above, contact your
doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
